This Week on the Island 05/08/2005

'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Weather: We have had one of the best Winter/Spring seasons most people on the island can remember. It probably got below 60 degrees about 7 times last Winter, and the Spring weather lasted thru the month of April. We had a storm come thru on Thursday and it rained most of the day. The winds were clocked at 60 MPH. The dock that the America is tied to broke loose and pushed the America toward the Western Union. The America backed out and the only damage was to the dock.

It has been fairly quite this week, but after 10 days of celebrating 'The Great Conch Republic' I guess we needed a break. Cinco de Mayo was celebrated around town at different bars. Schooner Wharf had their regular hot taco eating contest. You get 3 taco's, a Corona, a hot pepper, and a shot of tequila. The winner (who ever finishes first) get to go to the finals. The winner finished in 1 minute 25 seconds.

Clint Bullard, Country Western Musician, is playing at Hogs Breath this week.

Wendy and Dan from 'Bubba's Lost PHlock' of Midwest Indiana were in town for a little R&R. They called me from Schooner Wharf on Thursday night. We had a few adult beverages and watched the Cinco de Mayo festivities. Nice people.

While walking the dogs to the fountain in old town (it is near the aquarium) last Saturday night I ran into Philip, a friend I hadn't seen in about 15 years. He and his wife were in town on vacation. They seemed to be enjoying themselves.

I have set up a group named This is where I will post pictures from events around Key West. You may join the group and view the pictures. I have rated it ADULT because some of Key West events, like 'Fantasy Fest', allows body painting, but there should be no pictures in this bunch to offend anyone..
