This Week on the Island 08/16/2009

'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The pictures this week (click to enlarge) are ‘The Green Parrot’. It is the last bar on US#1. US#1 starts in Maine and runs 2,200 miles down the eastern seaboard to Key West. The second picture is ‘No Snivelling’, the sign behind the bar in the Green Parrot.

Weather: It is still August and still warm.

The book this week was ‘Between Man and Woman Keys’ by Rosalind Brackenbury. A book of short stories.

Things Tourist Say: ‘Why do so many people speak Mexican?’ Explanation: It is Spanish and they are Cuban. Cuba is 90 miles south and Mexico is over 400 miles west.

Sunday was Mike and Marissa’s 1st wedding anniversary. They both work at Schooner Wharf.

Sunday afternoon I found a small wood-burned sign on my front porch. It said ‘Sharing the Dream-- This Week On The Island.Blogspot’.

Big party Monday night, Aug 10th, at Captain Tony’s for Captain Tony’s birthday. Carl Peach started at 11:00 AM and Howard Livingston and the Mile Marker 24 Band wrapped it up after midnight.

Wednesday I peddled to what I call bum beach on the Gulf end of Simonton St. Then I peddled over to Mallory Square and then on to Truman Waterfront. Next I went to Fort Zack and the beach there and then back home. The puppies wanted to go to Schooner Wharf so I ate chicken wings and they got bones as we listened to Michael. We all enjoyed ourselves.

Saturday it rained all day.
