This Week on the Island 06/10/2007
This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The picture this week is our family, Doug & Jo, Wyeigh & Sassi. For those of you that have wonder what we look like.

This week I read more of 'The Complete Stories of Mark Twain'.
The Weather: It is that time of the year. The weather for the next 5 months will be hot and humid with a chance for rain.
Pride Fest. This started as 'Gay Pride Week' a week to celebrate the 'Gay Life Style' and turned into a celebration of all 'Life Styles'. Most activities were on the 800 block of Duval around the '801 Bourbon' bar. We had approximately 10,000 visitors in town for this event.
We met some of my ' This Week on the Island' readers at Schooner Wharf on Friday. They are from Orlando. We had a good time.
Another great web site for you http://www.bigpinekey.com/Pages/kudos_and_whiners6.htm

I wonder why the tourist ride their bicycles on the sidewalk and walk in the road. Speaking of tourist:
--------------------------------Things Tourist Say:-----------------------
Does the water go around the whole Island? ( I think that is the definition of an island.)
What time is the second sunset? (How many do you have at home?)
Are you a 'konsh'? (Conch is pronounced 'konk' (like to hit someone on the head).)
Where is 'pep-pays' ? ( The French never owned the island the Spanish owned the island for 300 years, it is 'Pep-pees'.)
You people don't know how to drive. (You are probably right. We are the ones on the bicycles, the tourist are the ones in the cars.)
Where is Schooner's Wharf? (It is Schooner Wharf ( it is singular not plural or possessive).)
How far apart are the mile markers on US#1.
Does the sun always set at Mallory Square? (Mallory Square is on the west end of the island. So yes that would be true.)
How long is the 7 mile bridge?
Why doesn't Key West move the reef a little closer to the island?
How do you keep the island from floating away?
Is Key West part of the United States?
Are the coconuts in the trees real?
How much does it cost to take the Conch Train to Cuba? (How long can you hold your breath under water?)
When are you going to finish the bridge to Cuba? (It called the White Street Pier and is not the unfinished bridge to Cuba.)
What kind of money do you use here?
Where do the homeless people live? (If they had a place to live they wouldn't be home-less.)
Are the gay people actors? ( We have a wonderful theater group here, so just like the rest of us, some are actors.)
---------------------- BUFFETT DNA --------------------------------------------
About two months ago Warren and Jimmy submitted DNA to 23andMe
When the results came back a month later, Wojcicki - a 33-year-old Yale grad and former health-care industry analyst - and her associate Joanna Mountain called Warren from 23andMe's offices, just half a mile from Google's Mountain View, Calif., campus, and broke the news that he need not include Jimmy in his will. In fact, "I'm as closely related to you as Jimmy is," said Mountain, the head of 23andMe's ancestry product line and a former professor of anthropological genetics at Stanford. (By the way, if you'd like to join Wojcicki's team, they're hiring like mad.)
As it turns out, Jimmy and Warren do have common ancestors, but you have to go back more than 10,000 years to find them. That's before surnames, folks. "Bottom line: We're not related," Warren wrote to his sister Doris, the family genealogist, who opened this whole can of worms many years ago.

Doesn’t E-Harmony’s Dr. Neil Clark-Warren look like the Orville Redenbacher (popcorn) of love?
