This Week on the Island 09/24/2022

‘This Week on the Island’ is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

The Weather: The weather for next week has ‘Hurricane” listed for Tuesday.

Fall arrived this week

But here in Key West it is still summer. This is Sanibel Island. How many waterspouts do you see.

Many of our hurricanes are born from the hot winds blowing off the Sahara Desert in North Africa.

This develops into a low-pressure system over the warm waters of the Atlantic.

They come across the Atlantic and in Hurricane Ian’s case they cross the leeward Islands into the Caribbean.

Then we start getting predictions as to where it will go next.

Hurricane Ian seem to have Key West in its sight.

But the predictions change daily.

Saturday, and Ian is still coming to get us. The good news is it has to cross Cuba’s large high mountains which usually slow the hurricane down.

Sept 24, 1988, Hurricane George, a Category 3 hurricane, hit Key West and destroyed House Boat Row on South Roosevelt.

We leave you with ‘Easy like Sunday morning’.
