This Week on the Island 08/04/2013

‘This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

Weather: The storm named Dorian is just some rain now and is headed north. Here in Key West it has been beautiful, Miami has had lots of rain.

This week I finished ’To Beat the Devil’ by Michael Haskins. It was another exciting Mad Mick Murphy thriller.

Nothing happening this week but lots of families in town with lots of children. I visited some of our beaches.

Fort Zack beach is a state park and is very clean and family oriented.

This is the Southernmost point in the lower 48 states.

This is South Beach on the Atlantic side of Duval.

This is Dog Beach next to Louis Back yard. There were a few dogs having a good time.

Louis is in the center with the umbrella. Picture taken from the little park next to the Casa Marina.

Salute’s Resturant at Higgs Beach

White Street Pier at the end of White Street on the Atlantic side. We call it the unfinished bridge to Cuba.

This is Smathers Beach out next to the airport. They have finished adding sand to the beach.

Ben Friberg landed in Key West on Friday after paddling 111 miles from Cuba in 28 hours while standing up on a paddle board.

We leave you this week with another Key West sunset. Again we have a lot of dust in the air from the Sahara in Africa. Speaking of sunsets, Juneau, Alaska just had its first sunset since May. The sun set at 1:57 am Friday and rose again at 3:12 am. One hour and 15 minutes of darkness.

Key West, You have got to love it
