‘This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

Weather: Another beautiful Key West week. Lots of sun, some rain lots of humidity. In the low 90’s in the day and the low 80’s at night.
No book this week.
----Battle of the Bars, Captain Tony Days, and Lobster Fest----
We started the week with Battle of the Bars. It was held at Schooner Wharf on Lazy Way Lane. Teams from bars run an obsticile course to see who gets the best times with no mistakes. (1) The first team member mixes a margarita, (2) The second member takes the margarita to the table (3) The third team member drinks the margarita (best job on the team), (4) The fourth member cleans the table and runs to the recycle bins and put the right stuff in the right bins (5) The fifth member rolls a keg to the table and puts in the tap. (6) The sixth member pours 6 beers and carries them to their teammates. Each teammate drinks their beer and put the glass on their head before the next team member can drink their beer. Time stops when the last team member puts their empty beer glass on their head.
Two teams run at a time and the losers are eliminated until you get down to the last two teams. The winner this year was Bourbon Street Pub.

Captain Tony Days was Thursday Friday and Saturday with events held each day. There was a street fest on Green Street on Saturday in front of Captain Tony’s Saloon. Most of us that live here just hung out at Captain Tony’s. Captain Tony was legendary character here in Key West. He was a saloon keeper, a party and charter boat captain, and Mayor of Key West. Most of us remember him as having something to do with Jimmy Buffett. The story changes with each telling.

Saturday a few blocks of Duval were blocked off for Lobster Fest. Where else can you sit on the curb in 90 degree heat and eat lobster and drink beer. Life is good.

I have not felt very well this week so on Wednesday I took some Ex-lax. I spent a lot of time in the john Wednesday night. Thursday I felt wonderful except a little dehydrated. It was a beautiful day so I went for a ride on my electric tricycle. I got out near the airport and the trike just quit. My right knee will not bend enough for me to peddle the trike so I had to walk back home pulling the trike. It was over 90 degrees and humid and the sun was bright. The over 2 mile walk took some time. I got quite a bit more dehydrated. It whipped this almost 70 old mans butt. I’m not as young or as tuff as I think I am. Got home, took a cold shower, got an ice tea, sat on the couch, and Boca wanted to go for a walk. Sorry puppy, maybe later.

There were lots of families in town this week . I would also like to say thank you to all the folks that read this blog that were in town this week

No one must have enlarger the pictures last week. The woman in the middle of the picture on South Beach was topless.

Key West you have got to love it
