This Week on the Island 08/17/2008

'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The picture this week (click to enlarge) is ‘A&B Lobster’ tented. A & B is on the Key West Bight at Front Street. In Key West we have two types of buildings, those that have termites and those that are tented. A&B was tented and gassed to get rid of termites.

The Weather: Beautiful week followed by a small hurricane. Hurricane Fay is expected to cross over Key West Monday night. More next week.

The book this week was ‘Silas Marner’ by George Eliot.

Kind of slow this week. Many of our visitors seem to be European. With the drop in the Dollar/Euro exchange, it makes vacations in the US cheaper for them.

Now on to more enjoyable things. I spent some time this week at the beach at Fort Zack and paddling in my kayak. From Fort Zack, walking away from the Atlantic and back toward the Key West Harbor you will come to a chain link fence that encloses the Navy Property. At that fence is the old Truman Beach built by the government and never used by the President. It is secluded and I have walked up on people in the nude.

Jo took a road trip this week so the dogs and I have been ‘all alone’. Well, that would be about as alone as I can be. It seems that there is always someone in town that I know or that knows me because of ‘This Week On The Island’. This week it was some folks from South Carolina, Iowa, Chicago, and a few other places. I would like to thank you folks for making my life more enjoyable.

MSNBC News on Wednesday afternoon had a news topic: ‘no need for sex to get old for aged / video’. I am aged, but I am not sure I want to see a video of people my age and sex.

Want to move to Key West http://www.foreclosure.com/ . Our zip code is 33040.
