This Week on the Island 03/11/2007

'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The picture this week is bikes at Hogs Breath.
This week I tried to read 'Starfish' by Peg Gregory. It was listed as a Key West Mystery. It ended up being a romance novel. Not my kind of book. I went back to the library and got 'Doubloon' by Jay Amberg. A story of a hunt for Spanish gold. My kind of book.
The Weather: It was wonderful this week. High 70's and low 80's with no humidity.

Kenny Chesney played for 3 hours last Friday night at Hog's Breath, then he played for 3 hours last Saturday night at Margarittaville.

This week end was the Marathon Seafood Festival. A full lobster dinner was $15.

Spring Break in Key West is from the first week of March thru Easter weekend (April 8th this year). So this year we will only have 6 weeks of Spring Breakers. The island is packed. Lots of college kids everywhere. Lots of motorcycles down from Daytona. Pictures at

A local artist gave the city 6 bronze statues. The city put them at the Southernmost Point. Most of us don't like them. Now when you take a picture of your family at the Southernmost Point, you have 6 bronze strangers in the picture.
