This Week on the Island 05/31/2015
‘This
Week on the Island’ is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends
about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those
parts that are lies.
Weather:
Another beautiful week, BUT hurricane season starts Monday, June 1st
and last till the end of November. The hurricane people, from somewhere in the
landlocked western states, predicts few hurricane this year. It seem La Nina in
the Pacific is causing a dip in the jet stream and pushing the hurricanes away.
Another BUT, all it takes is ONE.
This
week I read ’Jamaica me Dead’ by Bob Morris.
This
week started with the ‘Minimal Regatta’ in the bight at Schooner Wharf Bar.
Lots of fun, lots of people, lots of homemade boats.
A pile
of boats that lost in the first race.
Captains
of a few boats.
On the
week-end we had another bike ride around Old Town, Key West. We started at
Bayview Park on US#1 where North Roosevelt turns into Truman Ave. We rode to
United and Duval, down Duval to Front. Front to Whitehead and across the island
to the Southernmost point and then back to Bayview Park. Jo and I had a lot of
fun.
We
passed the Green Parrot on our ride down Whitehead as we headed toward the
Southernmost Point.
The
local Parrotheads were there with gift bags for the riders.
Key West
has installed rainbow crosswalks on Duval and Petronia. Photo from the Key West
Citizen and Rob O’Neal.
We leave
you this week with some investment advice according to these guys.
Key West
you have got to love it
