This Week on the Island 01/27/2013
‘This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Weather: 75 degrees , white clouds and blue skies.
This week’s book was ‘L. A. Dead’ by Stuart Woods. I have already read eleven of his books including ‘DC Dead’, ‘Bel-Air Dead’, and ‘Beverly Hills Dead’ and let’s not forget ‘Dead in the Water’.
Wolf
Fred Cabanas was buried at sea aboard the Schooner Woof, the flagship of the Conch Republic. A reception, including a bar-b-que, was held at his hanger at the airport. He died filming in Cancun, Mexico. Fred was a General in the Conch Republic Air Force. You will remember him as the guy in the biplane at the Mallory Square Sunset celebrations.
Fat Albert
Fat Albert, the surveillance blimp that flew over Cudjo Key has been retired by the Federal Government. It has been flying more than 30 years. Goodbye Fat Albert.
Patagon
Judy Montague was doing repairs under the 72 foot yacht The Patagon when the Captain put the boat in gear. She was sucked thru the propeller. She is in critical condition at the hospital in Miami.
