This Week on the Island 07/24/2005

'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

The Weather: Sunny and bright.

This weeks book was 'Night and Day' by John Leslie. Another murder mystery in Key West. This one takes place at the Hemingway House. For such a safe town, there are quite a number of murder mystery books written about Key West

The Schooner Wharf Bar has reopened it's Dog Bar. It is now the parking place next to the stage on Lazy Lane. We have a shade tree, water, a table and chairs, and a place to hitch your dog (no food allowed in the Dog Bar). ALSO The city ONLY wants to tear down the concrete block building at Schooner's. It is a place that most of you do not visit and consist of a pool table and a big screen TV. In it's place would be a nicer building with offices, freezer, and restrooms.

Monday was the parade for Mel Fisher. For those of you in the dark, Mel Fisher is the guy that found the Spanish ship The Atochia and about 400 Million in gold and jewels. It took him 15 years. Buffett was a friend. (in picture with Mel Fisher above) http://www.melfisher.com/mfd2005/mfd2005intro.asp

Thursday night was the bikini contest at Schooner Wharf Bar. A good time was had by all. No pictures, sorry.

Hemingway Days: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/KeyWestPictures/ Heart attack city! A bunch of old, fat, gray haired guys. All dress in too much clothing in the middle of the day. For photos visit http://groups.yahoo.com/group/KeyWestPictures/
