This Week on the Island 02/02/2014

‘This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

Weather: Another cold front came thru on Wednesday night, but again we were back into the high 70’s by the week end.
This week I started reading ‘A Common History of Uncommon Things’ by Bethanne Patrick and John Thompson. The book contains many interesting things like the history of coffee.
An old high school friend and his family were in town on a cruise ship last Monday. He had not been to Key West in 47 years. He was stationed at Homestead AFB many years ago.

---------------------Rose Lane----------------------------
Rose lane is one block long and is located between Duval Street and Simonton Street. If you are on Duval, you will see an alley between Fat Tuesdays and Hard Rock Café. That alley is Rose Lane.

Behind Hard Rock you can see The Red Barn Theater thru the trees.

Next is the Rose Lane Villas

Of course there are palm Tree on Rose Lane

And the guava tree

A guava on the ground. They are about the same size as a lime.

The Simonton Street intersection with Rose Lane has the hotel/car dealership where Hemingway stayed when he first came to Key West in 1928. The car was a few days late, so Hemingway spent his time drinking and fishing and fell in love with Key West. The rest is history.

And of course there are flowers.
Key West you have got to love it
