This Week on the Island 03/04/2007

'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The picture this week is Art on Lazy Lane.

This week I read 'Diary of a Key West Innkeeper' by Susan Jinbo. If you have ever thought of moving to Key West and running a Bed and Breakfast, I suggest you read this book. It opened my eyes to some of the problem involved in this type of business.

The Weather: It was warm this week (in the mid 80's with humidity.) A cold front came thru Saturday night and the temperature dropped to the mid 70's.

Monday, it was a beautiful day. I rode my bike over to Higgs beach and then up to Smatter's beach and on to the airport.

Tuesday was 'Paint the Front Fence' day.

Wednesday night while walking the dogs, we visited the parking lot lady at the Hog's Breath. There was a rather large guy playing guitar. He leaned back on his stool and the legs collapsed. He was unhurt and continued playing.
Thursday I went kayaking.

Kenny Chesney played for 3 hours Friday night at Hog's Breath.

Friday - Sunday the 'Bordello Full Moon Art Festival' at Blue Heaven in Bahama Village.

Friday night was "Art Behind Bars' at the Wave Gallery.

Saturday was the 'Art and Music Affair' on Lazy Lane (road behind Schooner Warf). Then Music by Michael McCloud. The whole family enjoyed the day. Photos at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ThisWeekontheIsland/ click PHOTO and then LAZY ART.

Saturday was the annual 'Conch Blowing' contest on Sunset Pier at Ocean Key Resort. (end of Duval Street).

Saturday was the annual Boat Show at the old Navy property behind Truman annex.

Did everyone see the eclipse of the moon on Saturday night?

Monty's on Caroline Street is now Daunte's.

Spring Break in Key West is from the first week of March thru Easter weekend (April 8th). So this year we will have 6 weeks of Spring Breakers. The collage kids have already started arriving.
