This Week on the Island 07/26/2009

'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The pictures this week (click to enlarge) is ‘A bunch of Hemingway’s running with the bulls on Duval Street next to the Bull & Whistle’.

Weather: Wednesday it was 88 degrees in Key West and 98 degrees in Denver.

This week I finished ‘Murder on Houseboat Row’ by Susan Whalen.

Things Tourist Say: ‘Can I get my money back if they cancel sunset?’

This week was ‘Hemingway Days’. A good time was had by a bunch of fat, overweight, overdressed, middle aged guys running around in 90+ degree heat, looking for a heart attack. As luck would have it we have not lost anyone yet as there is much liquid added to the diet of these guys. For more info on this years activities, go to http://www.tripsmarter.com/keywest/archives/hemingwaydays.htm . For more pictures go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ThisWeekontheIsland/ and click PHOTOS and then click HEMINGWAY DAYS.

We had some folks in from out of town this week. We had a great time at Schooner and Hemingway Days.

The news about the ex-Superintendent of Education and his wife still fill the newspaper. The city is now looking for an accountant to oversee school spending.

The Sarasota Parrot Head Club made the front page with an article about the Captain Tony reef ball they deployed.

On Wednesday, a couple of Parrot Heads from Maryland dropped by to say hi.

The city has decided to let the citizen’s vote on a nude beach.

Rick, of Rick’s Bar, across Duval Street from Sloppy Joe’s, has returned to work after having a hip replacement.

Tuesday, July 28th, Key West will be featured on the Today Show.

A great blog about living on a boat in Key West. http://coconutandcrew.blogspot.com/
