This Week on the Island 03/05/2023

‘This Week on the Island’ is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

 The Weather: Another beautiful Week.

There was a fire this week on the 600 block of Duval.

It was actually around back.

The Iditarod was this week. (Not here in Key West)

Fort Jeff is the least visited National Park. It is about 70 miles west of Key West.

Fort Zack is here in Key West. This is a very old picture. The fort used to be surrounded by water. This picture shows that the back side of the fort is touched by land.  Fort Zack is now completely surrounded by land from the ‘dredge and fill’ of the ships channel.

A replica of Magellan’s Nao Trindade (1519-1522) is in Key West.

New ship to be commissioned in Key West.

The old 7-mile bridge had a swing bridge to let ships pass the bridge.

Willie Nelson was in town.

Spring Break has started and the college kids are in town. Spring Break here in Key West starts about the beginning of March and last until Easter. Easter this year is April 9th, so we will have about 6 weeks of Spring Breakers.

We leave you with ‘Easy like Sunday morning’. Pic from Bo Fodor.
