This Week on the Island 05/21/2023

‘This Week on the Island’ is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

The Weather: It appears that the rainy season has started. Hot and humid for the next 6 months. Some people tell me they like the change in seasons where they live. We have plenty of seasons in Key West. The DRY season (Dec 1 – May 31) and the WET season (June 1 – Nov 30). Then there is the TOURIST season (use to be the winter months but now is all year.

In the summer the blacktop gets hot. I feel sorry for dog that have to walk with their owners on that hot stuff. If you are standing on the blacktop and your dog is doing a little dance, his feet are burning.

Teeki gets to ride. People ask why I don’t just walk her to the dog park. The dog park is over a mile away and back. (Two miles round trip). We would be tired by the time we got there.

This is Fort Jefferson in the Dry Tortugas. The Spanish named it Dry (There is no fresh water) Tortugas (because it is a sea turtle nesting place).

The WOLF has been named the Flag Ship of Key West.

We leave you with ‘Easy like Sunday morning’.
