This Week on the Island 09/28/2008

'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The picture this week (click to enlarge) is ‘A C17 Globemaster’. The navy was using them this week to do Navy Seal training in the waters just off the Key West Bight. Military men were parachuting into the water.

The Weather: Fall is in the air. It actually got down below 80 degrees at night.

The book this week was ‘True Crimes’ Volume 2’ by Terry Schmida’s. A book of Key West crimes.

Hog’s Breath has changed management. The manager for the last 20 years was ‘let go’. More later?

September, school has started, it is the height of hurricane season, very few visitors, so Turtle Kraals and Sara Beth’s have been closed for about two weeks. They are also doing some remodeling at Turtle Kraals.

The Hemingway cats can stay. There has been a lawsuit about keeping so many cats in the Hemingway compound. The six-towed cats have won and do not have to be caged.

A note from the Key West cemetery: ‘We have just had all of our coconut bearing trees trimmed (103). There are hundreds of coconuts on the ground...help yourself! ‘
