This Week On The Island 09/25/2011
'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The first picture this week (click to enlarge) is ‘Horse, Cop, and Palm Tree’. The second picture is ‘Tented Red doors’. The third picture is ‘Closed for Vacation’. The last group is ‘USS Spruance’ A new Navy ship coming into to Key West to be commissioned on October 1.
Weather: The Autumn Equinox came this week, so we are now into fall. It is still bright and sunny here with the temperature in the high 80’s every day and the low 80’s at night. It is still humid.
The book this week was ‘Cold-Case Killer’ by Dorothy Francis.
The ‘Cop, Horse and Palm tree’ was taken at Fort Zack park while we waited for the new Navy ship, The USS Spruance, to arrive.
‘Tented Red Doors’ is the Red Doors building across from B. O.‘s. We have lots of termites here so the buildings need to be tented and gassed upon occasion to get rid of the bugs.
‘USS Spruance’ came to Key West on Friday to be commissioned. There was a large crowd at Fort Zack state Park waiting for the ship to pass thru the ships channel. She docked at the outer mole. More photo’s at http://www.milezeromag.com/photos/galleries/
‘This Isn’t The Real World’. I read it on http://keywestmusic.blogspot.com/ and I agree with him. That is why people like Key West so much. You come here and enjoy yourselves like you can’t when you are surrounded by people that know you.
The middle of September and the city has very few tourists. Many of the businesses close and let the employees go on vacation this time of year. They will reopen before Halloween and Fantasy Fest.
