This Week on the Island 09/30/2018

‘This Week on the Island’ is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.
The Weather: Wonderful sunrise, looking east on Caroline Street.

The island has been a little quiet since the beginning of September as we wait for Goombay and Fantasy Fest (the end of October) to kick off the tourist season.
One of the places I like to spend time on the island is Fort Zack State Park, but I almost never show you Fort Zack. This is Fort Zack when it sat off the coast of Key West.
This shows FT Zack at the top right of the picture when it was off the coast.
This shows the old wooden bridge to get to Fort Zack. Note that there are  no railings on either side of the bridge.
This shows Fort Zack from the air after the fill dirt was added to create the park.
This shows the inside of Fort Zack.
And this pic show Fort Zack after they dug out the ships channel and put the dirt around Fort Zack and created the Florida Fort Zack State Park.
We leave you this week with the Scottish Bag Pipe Parade on Duval Saturday night, Four bag pipers and two drummers with a cop in front and one behind.
