This Week on the Island 01/22/2017

‘This Week on the Island’ is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.
Weather:  What a beautiful week. Lots of sunshine, blue skies and white clouds. Temperature in the high 70’s and low 80’s. People everywhere. I guess they are tired of the cold.
The week started with the Half Shell Half Marathon and Howard Livingston and the MM24 band.
All week we have had the sail boat races. Pics from Rob O'Neal
Then this week end we had the Women’s March down Duval Street.

Teeki, “Where did that cat go”?
The little pineapple by the front walk continues to grow.
And last be not least, Gold Elvis. I watched this guy work. He stands on his platform and puts gold beads around passing peoples (women and girls) neck and then points at his ‘Tips hat’. They all gave him a dollar. He got over $60 in the hour I watched him. $60 an hour X 8 hour day = $480 a day X 5 day week = $2,400 a week or $120,000 a year with a 2 week vacation. Now I know that it isn’t that good all the time, but this guy has a pretty good gig.
Key West you have got to love it
