This Week on the Island 03/27/2005
'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Happy Easter
The Weather: Another Beautiful Week. in the mid 80's in the day and the mid 70's at night. Went kayaking a couple of times. I case I haven't mentioned it, I love living here.
Easter weekend is a long weekend, with people getting Good Friday off from work. The crowd is back. Everyone is tired of Winter and looking for some fun in the sun. Lots of sunburned people.
Spent some time in court this week. Last March I hired a guy to rebuild my front porch. I paid for the lumber and 1/3 of his cost. He disappeared with my money. I took him to court and won a judgment against him, but he still had not paid my money back, so I took him to court again to get a list of his assets. Tuesday was court day. The Judge put an order against 25% of his pay until he pays me off. I felt so good I went by the Courthouse Deli and got a Cuban Mix for lunch, then across the street to the Green Parrot for something to wash it down with.
Walking down Duval Street about 6:00 PM, in front of Rick's, which is right across the street from Sloppy Joe's, the dogs started playing with a dead snake. What is a snake doing on Duval Street that time of day. The real snakes usually don't come out until much later.
Had to take Wyleigh Dog to the vet for some surgery Friday morning. She is fine now, but was in some pain as she whined all Friday night.
The Crowith Cramer, a square rigger, is in the Key West Bight. This ship is interesting because it's sails are tied to the mast for docking instead of being tied to the cross beams. http://www.kathysharpfrisbee.com/wward.html
Ted has left the island. He was a real WWII hero. He was a graduated from the first class of Navy Frogmen (later it became the Navy Seals). I used to see him all over the island pushing his walker, but he really liked listening to Michael McCloud at Schooner Wharf. He was a tuff old bird and I will miss him. I hope he finds his place among the angles.
