This Week on the Island 05/16/2010
'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The pictures this week (click to enlarge) are ‘In the Tropics they come and they go’ Jimmy Buffett. The first picture is the ‘Iguana’ across from ‘Captain Tonys’ that has closed, and ‘Ernesto’s’ on Green Street that never opened. It is about one half block from ‘Sloppy Joes’.
Weather: It has been a little windy this week which makes it hard to ride my bike. It is OK in town, but North and South Roosevelt are a little tuff.
The book this week was ‘Captains Outrageous’ by Joe R. Lansdale.
The Loop Current has moved further south and away from the oil spill, so we may be OK for a little while.
Old Cuban traditions die hard. This week the Key West police busted a Cock Fighting ring.
Jo and I went to Out Back Steak House to celebrate my birthday. It was wonderful.
They painted ‘The Wall’ that surrounds the vacant lot between Schooner Wharf and my house. It had become covered in graffiti. It immediately got more graffiti on it and was repainted again. They also cut the weeds at the base of the fence and cleaned up the street. It looks good for moments.
Next week, the City Commission is suppose to hopefully approve the ordinance that will allow dogs back into ‘open air bars’.
