This Week on the Island 07/23/2017
‘This Week on the Island’ is
written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key
West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.
The
Weather: Same as the last eight weeks. Hot and humid until November with a
chance of a hurricane. Pic from lunch at
Schooner Thursday.
This week’s
book was ‘Key West D.O.A.’ by Mike Pettit.
This
Week was Hemingway Days. Lots of Hemingway looking fat guys running around in
90+ heat looking for a heart attack. The boat picture is a replica of Hemingway's boat, Pilar.
And
next week will be Lobster Mini-Season. This is 2 days before the season starts, where people can
get 6 lobsters per person per day. Note that our lobster do not have caws, we call them bugs.
We had 2
guys from Miami caught with 3 Key Deer tied up in their car. Then there were
the 6 guys from Alabama with over 300 lobster tails they caught before the
start of lobster season. Then there was the woman with 40 conch. Now a guy with
a crock and another guy with a baby sea turtle in his pocket.
It you
are looking to purchase a home in Key West, here is a church made of coral that
has been converted into a home. It is only $2.65 million.
Took
another road trip Friday up to Mile Marker 50 to visit Dr. Doug. Teeki needed to renew her flea/tick/heart
medicine. Stopped at Porky’s and had their chicken fingers.
