This Week on the Island 05/06/2012
This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

Weather: Rain! Monday Key Largo got 6 inches, we only got 4 inches. Tuesday it rained some more. The rest of the week was beautiful.
This week I finished reading ‘Leather Maiden’ by Joe E. Lansdale.
I am sure (if you have ever been to the Green Parrot) you have seen Smirk. Well a tourist wrote their name on his face. A bunch of other tourist saw it and thought it was funny so they signed their name also. Smirk has been cleaned.
Jo’s got a new tricycle with an electric motor. I really enjoy it.
The Songwriters Festival was held last week with lots of folks in town and lots of activities at different locations around Key West. This was a stage on the corner of Duval St and Green St and next to Sloppy Joes.
Cinco de Mayo was celebrated at Schooner Wharf on Saturday. There were specials all day long. In the taco eating contest, each male contestant got 3 tacos, a shot of tequila, a corona, and a hot pepper. The women only got 2 tacos, a shot of tequila, a corona and a hot pepper. It was a timed event.
A stage on Green Street in front of Amigos (across from Captain Tony’s.)
Sloppy Joe’s celebrated their 75th birthday. Note: They just replaced all the doors on the Green Street side. They look just like the old doors without the rot.
Joe and Sharon, from Wisconsin, were in town last week. They hated to leave.
Allen Cox, from South Carolina, also came over to say hi when the dogs and I went thru Schooner Wharf.
Key West, You have got to love it
