This Week on the Island 05/29/2016

‘This Week on the Island’ is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.
Weather: We got rain in the mornings and hot sun most of the days this week.
This week I read ‘The Road to Key West, The Golden Scepter’ by Michael Reisig. I am really enjoying his books.
-------Koda has left the island – RIP my love. ------
We got Koda from the local Animal Rescue on Stock Island about 2 years ago. She is one of the most loving husky’s we have ever owned. She decided she belong to me and followed me everywhere. She would lay beside my chair as I watch TV and she slept on the floor on my side of the bed.
Last Sunday morning when I got up there was ‘throw-up’ all over the house. By that afternoon she had done this about a dozen times. We called the vet in Marathon, put her in the car and drove. She was a very sick puppy and they kept her for the night.
Monday we received a call to say they had run bunches of test and she had diabetes and a bunch of other stuff. They kept her for Monday night.
Tuesday she was not any better and so we drove back to Marathon for a visit. She looked bad and had her stomach shaven for exploratory surgery.
Wednesday we received the call that she had pancreatic cancer and would probably never leave the hospital, BUT they had done a biopsy and would sent it off to see what type of cancer it was. They would let us know by the weekend. Seem one type will kill her and the other type she can live a little longer with.
Thursday we called to check on her, we had decided to let her go to sleep, BUT she was up and eating and drinking water and was taken outside to take care of business. So we put off that decision.
Friday we went to visit again and were surprised at how well she was doing. Not real well but better than we had expected

Saturday We received a call from Marathon Vet, Dr. Doug, that Koda had taken a turn for the worst. We made the decision to ‘let her go’. I will miss that girl.

Good-by Koda I love you, girl.
On one of our 6 trips across the 7 mile bridge (one going and one coming home -3 times) we stopped at Porky’s and had a N. C. bar-b-que sandwich and sweet potato fries. Good stuff.

Key West you have got to love it
