This Week on the Island 06/25/2006
'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Key West: a city of change. The picture this week is of the General of the Conch Republic Army, Geof Chapman. He is no longer with us and will be missed. Rest in peace brother.
The Weather: Hot and humid with a chance of rain. The weather forecast stays the same for the next 6 months (except for the occasional hurricane).
We had another couple in town visiting this week. They have been here many times before and they had a wonderful time. For the weekend they had many of their friends arrive in town. What a wild bunch of people.
Wednesday night was the local Parrot Head (Jimmy Buffett Fan Club) meeting at Margaritaville. We had some visitors from the Columbia, SC, club and a new member.
The town still has a lot of people on vacation for the first part of June, but summer (slow time) is almost here. Many people go to the beach near their home for the next couple of months and Key West's number of visitors drops. By the last of August and the month of September tourism is very slow here. Then it all kicks off again the last of October with Goombay, Fantasy Fest and then the Parrot Heads.
----------------Personal Note-----------------------------
I had my cholesterol checked by the VA at year end, it was 245. I went on a diet/exercise program and 4 months later my cholesterol was 155 (dropped 90 points). The VA called me back for another check and my cholesterol has dropped even further. I think the last check was to verify the results of the drop of 90 points.
