This Week on the Island 06/20/2010

'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The picture this week (click to enlarge) is ‘Empty Bight’. Many boats leave the Keys by June every year so as not to be here during hurricane season which makes insurance cheaper. The second picture is ‘Paddle Board’. This guy was paddle boarding by Mallory Square one morning about 8:00 AM.

Weather: When a hurricane hits this oil spill, it is going to be a disaster. Can you imagine the damage a hurricane does and add onto that oil covering everything in town?

No book this week.

No oil yet.

The waterspouts are back.

The dogs and I were walking down Margaret Street when we met two friends going to Michael’s for dinner. He extended his hand, introduced himself and his wife and let me know they were from Orlando. Much better than the people that say ‘I bet you don’t remember me?’

A bunch of motorcycles left Key West headed to Alaska his week. The Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge is about 7,000 miles long. The winner gets a $500,000 prize.

There are lots of young people in town this week. School is out for the summer.

The A/C broke Wednesday night. Again I am thankful I left a small window unit in the bedroom. It took a couple of days to get it fixed.

I switched to State Farm Auto Insurance and saved almost $500 a year. I think everyone should shop around ever few years.
