This Week on the Island 08/20/2006
'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

Key West: The pictures this week are: (1) La Terraza Marti named after the great Cuban Hero ,Jose Marti, 1853-1895, and (2) La Te Da, a hotel / guesthouse on Duval Street www.LaTeDa.com . (sorry, I couldn't get the first picture to load.)
The Weather: August and September are our two hottest months and our two worst months for hurricanes. It has been cooler than normal so far this month. It is still hot and humid and in the high 80's every day, but it is very nice at night. The ocean water just off the coast of Africa is cooler than normal and it seems to be cooling down the fronts as they move out of the Sahara Desert. This seems to be keeping the fronts from developing into hurricanes.
This week book I completed 'The Complete Short Stories of Ernest Hemingway' by The Ernest Hemingway Foundation 1987.
My wife purchased a new computer and I inherited her old IBM ThinkPad. While moving 'stuff' from the old PC to the new PC, I ran into a few opportunities. (1) Different web sites had different size printing on the new PC. To get them all the same I clicked TOOLS, then clicked INTERNET OPTIONS, then clicked ACCESSIBILITY, then clicked IGNORE FONT SIZES. (2) Sometimes the new computer would display 'old' pages and I had to hit REFRESH. To correct this I went to TOOLS, then clicked INTERNET OPTIONS, then clicked SETTINGS, then clicked CHECK FOR NEWER VERSION. (3) Working with both PC's side by side, I found that some web sites would not let me in. To fix this I found that I had to sign off the web site with the old PC before signing in on the new PC. I still have a few problems with Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Portfolio Manager, but I will get them in time.
The local Parrot Head Club had it's monthly Social at White Tarpon (Corner of Front Street and the Key West Bight). We had a good turnout and a good time. We ordered food from 'Damn Good Food' and ate at the outside tables next to the boardwalk at the Key West Bight.
