This Week on the Island 07/01/2007
'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

The book this week was 'Treasure Island ' by Robert Louis Stevenson.
The Weather: The weather for the next 5 months will be hot and humid with a chance for rain.
The island is pretty much empty during the week. The week-ends bring lots of tourist to Duval Street.
Many people spend winter in the Key's. Summer is now here and the part-time residence are headed back north. The bight which is filled with yachts in the winter is about half full now. (bight- a body of water surrounded by land with an opening to the sea).
This week was 'Goombay', a celebration of the African-American Heritage. Most everything was on Patronia Street in Bahama Village. Lots of entertainment, lots of eats.
We also had our annual 'Fruit Fest' at Bayview Park on Saturday. Mango, papaya, banana, key lime, avocado, pineapple, oranges, jaboticaba, longan, sugar apple, carambola, sapote, jackfruit, breadfruit, etc.
Strange things fall from the sky after a waterspout, small fish, seaweed, etc.
