This Week on the Island 12/20/2009
'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The picture this week (click to enlarge) is ‘Snow is over rated’ on the construction fence behind Schooner Wharf.
Weather: Beautiful the first of the week. Friday it rained, and rained and rained. The water was knee deep at Sloppy Joes. A cold front with lots of wind came thru over the week end dropping the temp to the low 60’s. The locals are wearing jeans, long sleeves, and hoodies (zipper sweatshirts with hoods).
The book this week was ‘A Book of Famous Fairy Tales (1938)’ by Charles E. Knapp.
I have written about the school superintendent and his wife getting caught taking lots of money from the school system. The net continues to spread with more folks caught taking money from other government jobs. We also have people taking lobster from traps and boat motors from boats. A couple of years ago we had a guy in charge of parking meters taking thousands of dollars in quarters. His family would deposit buckets of rolled quarters into the bank.
Boca, the Siberian husky, has a new toy. It is a plastic bottle in an old sock. He loves it. It makes lots of noise when he chews on it.
Speaking of the huskies, Sassi and Boca get lots of attention around all the Christmas decorations.
------------------Merry Christmas to all---------------
Key West has lots of palm trees in lights.
There was a contest for a white Christmas, Howard Livingston of the Mile Marker 24 band won. He will have his yard covered with man made snow on Christmas Eve.
Saturday night there was a free concert at Lands End (next to Turtle Kraals and Half Shell Raw Bar). I saw Coconut, Jim and Sandy of http://coconutandcrew.blogspot.com/
You have ‘The Nutcracker’. One of the Keys Schools is performing ‘The Coconut Cracker’.

In South Carolina we have something called the Charleston Tuxedo. It is a dark blue blazer, kaki pants, shirt and tie, and loafers or topsiders with no socks. Last Saturday for the city Christmas I wore the Charleston Tuxedo with Birkies (sandals). Key West Tuxedo?
