This Week on the Island 04/10/2011

'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The first picture this week (click to enlarge) is ‘Caribbean Blue’ a new restaurant on White Street where ‘Jose Cantina’ used to be. The second Picture is ‘Coconuts and open window’, the third picture is ‘Flowers and open window’. The last two pictures are Key West to me. All pictures were borrowed from www.ConchScooter.blogspot.com.

Weather: Tuesday a front moved thru and the temperature dropped and the humidity went away. We cut off the A/C and opened the house. The A/C was back on by the weekend.

This week I read ‘Sizzling Sixteen’ by Janet Evanovich.

Another week of spring break. Not near as many kids in town this week. I love the college kids and the fun they have, but it is also good to see them go.

I have bad knees and have had one of them replaced with a titanium knee thanks to the VA. I like to sit in my rocker on the front porch and read or work on my PC. I watch all the people jog by and I am very jealous. It really gets me when the people jogging are my age. Key West has a lot of runners and events for runners and people on vacation that like to run. We have lots of bicycle riders and kayakers (my favorite two exercises). We have lots of fishermen and lots of people eating those fish. We have lots of beautiful weather so these folks can enjoy their activities. We have lots of churches so you can be thankful for your ability to enjoy the life in Key West. We have lots of parks and lots of event for kids. We have lots of athletic events (baseball, football, soccer, etc) and lots of people enjoying these events. Come to think of it we aren’t much different than most any other town.

Sunday was ‘The 3rd Annual Bike Appreciation Day’. This year’s ride was 6 miles from Hurricane Hole on Stock Island, down South Roosevelt to Salute on Higgs Beach and on to Dante’s pool on Caroline Street.

I started the weekend early and went to Schooner on Thursday to listen to Michael McCloud and have a few adult beverages. I love living here, Life is good.

I had a reader of ‘This Week on the Island’ from Ohio drop by and I saw him later a Schooner. He delivered some chicken bones for Sassi. She loved them.

Some of my wife’s friends came to town on Friday. It is good to see old friends and enjoy their company as we show them around Key West. City View, the new trolley in town, has a special for senior citizens of $18 instead of $19. If you purchase online it is $17 and if you return the ticket the next day and buy another ticket it is $9. City View allows you to get off at stops and get on another trolley later. What a great deal for old folks that don’t want to walk much.
