This Week on the Island 01/04/2018

‘This Week on the Island’ is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.
The Weather: Spring is here. A rainbow over the old Bridle Path at Smather’s Beach.
This week I finished reading ’Mangrove Lighting’ by Randy Wayne White.
Some interesting people have visited Key West.
President Kennedy during the Cuban Missile Crisis in the 1960’s.
The Beatles also in the 1960’s
Captain Tony and some guy named Buffett.
A few people enjoyed the old pictures of Key West last week, so here are some more.
Key West after the great fire of 1886.
Fort Zack when it was surrounded by water. This was before they dug out the ships channel and used the fill dirt to create Fort Zackery State Park.
The Truman Waterfront when the Navy owned it.
Willy-T’s when it was the Charcoal Hut.
On the side of the building at Caroline and Peacon Lane.
We leave you this week with this.
