This Week on the Island 06/17/2012
This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

Weather: It is that time of year when we look north to see how hot it is. Miami is miserable with temperatures in the 90’s and rain almost every day. Texas is roasting and even Chicago is in the 90’s. We have lots of sunshine and temperatures in the high 80’s.
No book this week. All my time is being used to replace the fence that was torn down.
Howard Livingston and the Mile Marker 24 Band play trop-rock music. They have a group of followers named The Coconut Castaways. They are having a gathering at The Double Tree Resort here in Key West. Pic from their web site at http://www.coconutcastaways.com/
The Castaways Against Cancer Kayak tour from Miami to Key West arrived at the Casa Marine on Friday.
The Duck Tours have arrived. See Key West from the water. Pic from the Citizen Newspaper.
We have some folks in from out of town (Chicago, Alabama, and Tampa) so we took a road trip this week. We drove up to No Name Pub (mm30) and then headed back toward Key West with stops at Looe Key, Boondocks, Mango Mama’s, Geiger Key and Hogfish. A good time was had by all.
Friday night we did a little cook-out. We call it Beauford stew. Hot water with spices and add (1) little red potatoes, (2) corn on the cob, (3) sausage cut into nickel slices, (4) and shrimp. This time we also threw in some crap claws. It was wonderful.
That is the Schooner Wolf, the Flag Ship of the Conch Republic, but that is NOT Key West in the background. The Wolf was at the StarSpangled200 events in Baltimore, celebrating the 200 anniversary of the War of 1812.
Mama, the cat that lived on the docks next to the fishing boats at The Commodore and The Boat Bar, has left the island. She will be missed.
