This Week on the Island 08/26/2012
This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

Weather: Beautiful all week. Light showers and a small breeze started Saturday night.
The book this week was ‘Grand Cayman Slam’ by Randy Wayne White.
----------------Here comes Isaac--------------------------------
Monday was beautiful and another trip to the VA in Miami. I have to get up at 4:00 AM to catch the 5:00 AM VA bus to Miami. The bus gets to Miami VA at about 9:00 AM. My dental appointment was at 10:00 AM. I get lunch in the cafeteria and then wait for 1:30 PM for the bus to leave. I get home about 6:00 PM. It was a long day.
Tuesday was beautiful; Diana Nyad came ashore at Higgs Beach at the White Street Pier. This was her 3rd try to swim from Cuba to America. She was picked up and brought to the White Street pier where she got in the water and finished her swim. It is that time of the year, school has started and there aren’t many tourists here.
Wednesday was beautiful, I filled both cars with gas and tested the generator (if the big drop cord from the mainland is broken, the generator will power the frig and freezer). I got some cash from the ATM (if the island loses electricity, cash is all that will work). I got dog food and people food and checked on our water supply (if the long pipe from the mainland breaks, that will come in handy).
Thursday was another beautiful day. A 58 year old mans body was pulled from the water at Mallory Square. He had been sleeping and folks saw him roll off the pier at 6:58 AM. No one seems to know who he was. Because of Isaac tourist that were in town are starting to leave.
Friday again a beautiful day, Time to get all the loose stuff in the yard tied down. Plug all the stuff that needs charging (electric razor, batteries for electric drill, etc) check battery supply, take down the wind chimes, check out the container of propane gas. It is very quiet as people have left town.
Saturday, A nice day but very quiet. I sat on the front porch reading and working on the blog. Closed the shutters. Took the dogs for a few walks because we probably will not be able to walk tomorrow it will be raining and a little windy.
Sunday, waiting.
