This Week on the Island 02/18/2007
'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

The Picture this week is the gate to Captain Outrageous’ house. He passed away last week.
This week I read 'Key West: a Max Cleveland Mystery’ by Alan Austin. Another murder mystery.
The Weather: Cold and rain at the first of the week (Long Key got over 9 inches of rain); beautiful Tuesday and Wednesday (in the low 80’s); cold Thursday thru Sunday. (in the high 60’s).
Tuesday, a beautiful day, we participated in a New Orleans style funeral for Captain Outrageous. Police up front, then a band, then the hearse, then his painted Mercedes, then a long line of friends. We left his house on Caroline Street, went up the street, past BO’s and Pepe’s to Harpoon Harry’s, turned right on Margaret Street, past Michael’s, and went to Southard Street. We took a right on Southard, past the Meteor and the Green Parrot, to Whitehead and took a left. We stayed on Whitehead until we took a right on Patronia, past Blue Heaven, and then a left on Emma in Bahama Village. The Captain would have loved it. Many participants in the parade had objects (bikes, cars, etc) that had been painted by the Captain. He will be missed. Wednesday was Valentine’s Day. I spent some time in the back yard and got a little too much sun.
Thursday was another 13 hour day with a trip to the VA in Miami on the VA bus. I think the VA services are excellent and really appreciate the way this country is taking care of its Veterans. Lots of guy do nothing but complain, but I have had little to no problems. The VA clinic here in Key West is great. Anything they can’t do, they will send you to Miami to another doctor, and they give you a ride there and back and it is free.
Friday was cold and windy. Good day to do taxes.
Saturday started off as a cold day, but was beautiful around noon, then got cold again (55 degrees).
