This Week on the Island 03/07/2021

‘This Week on the Island’ is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

The Weather:  Beautiful

We have 2 Civil War Forts here. Well actually one is here in Key West and the other is about 70 miles away in the Dry Tortugas (Dry meaning no fresh water, and Tortugas for turtles and the nesting area.)

Fort Zack named for President Zackary Taylor and Fort Jeff named for President Thomas Jefferson.

Just a local picture of the sunrise over the bight one day last week.

Teeki making her rounds to collect treats – this one at Captain Tony’s.

A picture for remembering Atlantic Shores a clothing optional hotel and bar and pool that has been replaced. Some of us still miss it. The local strippers would hang here to work on that all over tan. Remember in Key West the local stripper may not be female.

We leave you with Easy Like Sunday Morning.

What if we throw in a little trip, we took this week?

We drove to Marathon and had lunch at Porky's. Coming toward Key West, It is on the Gulf side just before the 7 mile bridge.

It is a tiki hut
Open air
Our view for lunch

The marina out back with an opening to the Gulf of Mexico.

I like that they try to teach some manners
Teeki liked that it is dog friendly.

We both had a cold beer, some North Carolina B-B-Q, beer, sweet potato fries, beer, onion rings and beer. They had great music playing, sounds from the 60's and 70's. Jimi, Stones, Animals, etc.

So, for that you get an extra Easy like Sunday morning.
