This Week on the Island 09/05/2021

‘This Week on the Island’ is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

The Weather:

HURRICANES. It is September and the height of hurricane season. Hurricane Ida hit New Orleans this week then went up to New England and soaked everything in-between.

It was Labor Day week-end in 1935 (before they named these storms) that The Great Hurricane of 1935 destroyed the Keys and ‘Railroad that went to sea’. The bodies (that were found) were piled up and burned.

Some business just close up and go on vacation this time of the year.

While we sit here and again say ‘Next!’.

The Southernmost point that usually has a long line of visitors sits pretty much alone.

We are out of the USA’s longest war. 20 years and 4 Presidents. The Last Man Out was a General.

The Stones drummer and ZZ Tops bass player are now jamming with the other musicians that have gone before.

AND this is Labor Day Week-end.

We leave you with ‘Easy like Sunday Morning’.

Key West,

Close to Perfect, Far from Normal’
