This Week on the Island 02/21/2021

‘This Week on the Island’ is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

The Weather:  Beautiful most of the week with a cold front on the week end.

I am still reading Randy Wayne Whites ‘Salt River’.

On 02-15-1898 the USS Maine blew up in Havana Harbor. We went to war with the chant of ‘Remember the Maine’ and Teddy Roosevelt charged up San Juan hill. History would later show that the USS Maine blew up from the inside.

A new restaurant will open on Duval in the same block as Sloppy Joe’s.

This is M5 anchored off shore at the Hotel Opel (used to be Margaritaville, Western, Hilton). Teeki and I saw it on one of our early morning walks.

Teeki and I have been known to spend some time at the Truman Waterfront.  This ship is docked there and has quite a history.

We leave you with Easy Like Sunday Morning.
