'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

The Weather: The temperature has gotten down below 80 degrees every night this week. There is a nice breeze and the humidity is dropping. It must be October.
We have had some friends visiting this week from South Carolina. These are the same people that met Jimmy Buffett at B. O.'s the last time they were in town. It is always good to see old friends. We ate lunch one day at El Siboney's, on the Corner of Margaret and Catherine, less than 1/2 mile from The Casa Marina. I would suggest you try it.
Key West has 3 new commissioners and a new mayor. There is a runoff on Nov 1st to decide 2 other seats. It looks like 'Clean Sweep' got most of what it wanted.
By now you have all seen the fiery crash on the 7 mile bridge Monday, October 3rd. It appears that a vehicle passing a gas tanker cut back in too fast and hit the front of the tanker. The gas tanker driver hit the brakes and was hit in the rear by a SUV. The gas tanker driver and the SUV driver died and the car that caused the accident has not been found. The 7 mile bridge was closed for about 24 hours. Drive safely.
Key West, You have got to love it
