This Week on the Island 01/16/2011

'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The picture this week (click to enlarge) is ‘The home base for the yacht teams that are in town for the Yacht races’. They blocked off Green Street next Kelly’s.

Weather: Wednesday on CNN it was announced that Florida was the only state in the union that did not have snow on the ground. it is still cold for us locals. It did not get out of the 50’s Thursday and there was a strong wind out of the north

This week I read ‘Seven Up’ by Janet Evanovich.

The continuing story of the empty lot across the street. The property owners have installed post and a rope around the property to keep vehicles from parking there.

Every Friday, The Citizen, the local paper has a list of churches and times for services. There were 70 churches advertising.

The 7th edition of ‘Fight Night in the Keys’ was held Friday at Mallory Square.

The 6th annual Seafood Festival was held Saturday at Bayview Park. It was sunny and in the low 70’s.

Guy Harvey’s restaurant/bar on Green Street, across from Sloppy Joe’s, has closed.

The ‘Snotty Yachties’ are in town for the yacht races.

Saturday at about noon the ‘Wounded Warriors’ came down Caroline Street. The ‘Wounded Warriors’ are physically challenged veterans on bikes.
