This Week on the Island 07/22/2012

This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

Weather: There were storms in the desert of North Africa that got lots of dust in the air. That dust is here in Key West now and the sunsets are beautiful.

This week I read ‘The Last Pirate’ by Wilson Hawthorne. A great little book.

Hemingway Days were this week (July 19 – 21, 2012). The main event is the Hemingway look-a-like contest at Sloppy Joes. The elimination rounds are on Thursday and Friday with the finals and the winner picked on Saturday night.

Duval Street was closed on Saturday for a street fair.

----------------------Other Stuff------------------------

Friday the Key West Citizen had an article about how Mangrove Mama’s, at Mile Marker 20, has been sold to a guy from Wisconsin. Saturday they had an article about how the guy from Wisconsin had to go back to Wisconsin to serve jail time for drug distribution. Life in the Keys.
