This Week on the Island 12/07/2008

'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The picture this week (click to enlarge) is ‘A peg leg pirate’. He is on the wharf outside Schooner Wharf Bar.

The Weather: A cold front came thru last week end bringing lots of wind and rain. Then the sun came out and it warmed back up to the mid 70’s.

The book this week was ‘Pirate Soul’ by Pat Croce. Interesting book with each page having a secret pocket or a fold out or something unusual.

This week was Pirates in Paradise. The main action was down at Fort Zack where the pirates were camped-out. There were raids on Fort Zack and the pirate ship, The Wolf, in the harbor. Lots of pirates walking the boardwalk by the Key West Bight. Go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ThisWeekontheIsland/ click ‘Conch Republic Pirates’ and ‘Pirates In Paradise’.

Saturday, it was 76 degrees and time for the Great Conch Republic Holiday (Christmas) Parade. Where else can you sit on the side of the street in shorts, sandals and a Hawaiian Santa shirt with an adult beverage in hand and watch the Holiday? Parade. Also, lots of the floats have dog treats that they throw to our 4 legged friends. We had to leave the parade early because Boca started acting up. He is afraid of big trucks and the fire truck got to him.

Sunday, Dec 7th, Pearl Harbor Day. Say thank-you to a vet.
