This Week on the Island 03/19/2006

'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

Key West: a city of change. The pictures this week are (1) The corner of Green and Duval early 1900's and (2) that same intersection today (2006). Note: Sloppy Joe's is now on that corner.

The Weather: It is in the low 80's at day and the mid 70's at night.

This weeks book was 'Choke' by Stuart Woods. It is about a tennis player that moved to Key West and got himself involved in murder. I enjoyed this book.

The second week of 8 weeks of spring break and St Patty's day weekend. The town is packed. There are people everywhere. Duval Street is trashed each morning when I walk the dogs, but looks good again by 9:00 AM. The college kids are enjoying themselves.

We had friends, Kevin and Katie, in last week end. It was his birthday and I believe they enjoyed themselves. We also had 2 Parrot Heads from Charlotte, Lee and Pam join us at Margarittaville for our monthly Parrot Head meeting.

Saturday was St. Patty's Day Duval Street bar crawl. We (Jo and I, Wyleigh and Sassi) joined the local Parrot Head Club in supporting the local Boy's and Girl's club by signing up and getting a t-shirt. There were 10 bars involved. We started at the Duval Street Club on the Atlantic side of the island and worked our way to Schooner Wharf on the Gulf Side of the island. At Schooner we ran into Dave and Jeff from Miami. A good time was had by all.
