This Week on the Island 05/22/2016
‘This Week on the Island’ is written by Doug
Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week.
Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.
Weather:
We got some much needed rain this week. The dry season (Dec – May) is almost
over and the rain is starting to appear from time to time.
This
week I read ‘The road to Key West, A Caribbean Adventure’ by Michael Reisig.
Monday,
May 16th was a sail boat race to Cuba
Tuesday
morning there were a bunch of ‘Fast boats’ in the bight behind Conch Republic
Seafood. They made a run to Havana. (Havana, May 17 (Prensa Latina)
About 20 powerboats and 90 crew members will begin a symbolic event today to
unite the United States and Cuba, during a powerboats rally from Florida to
Havana.)
I made a
few runs on the tricycle. One to ‘The missiles of October’ site out on
Government Road. I’m sure you remember the Cuban Missile Crisis. This is what it looked like then.
Made
another run to Win-Dixie. Picked up 2 coconuts from the side of the road.
I also
put a fresh coconut in the fridge.
Also the
Poincianas are in bloom. Picture thanks to http://conchscooter.blogspot.com/
Key West
you have got to love it
