This Week on the Island 02/06/2011

'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The pictures this week (click to enlarge) are ‘Another Key West Sunset’ and ‘Island Flowers’ both stolen from www.ConchScooter.blogspot.com .

Weather: In the mid 70’s with lots of sunshine, blue skies, white clouds, clear calm water, and low humidity. The doors and windows are open and the whole house fan is circulating the air. Life is good,

This week I read ‘Twelve Sharp’ by Janet Evanovich.

There were two big events this week. One was the 10th anniversary of our buying this house and moving to Key West. The other was my wife’s birthday. I don’t know how she has put up with me all these years. She still works and I stay home all day. Well I don’t stay home actually, but I don’t go to work. It is my job to take care of the house. This week I have been doing outside work. These old houses take a lot of ‘taking care of’. For her birthday we went to Schooner Wharf and listened to Michael McCloud.

I guess it is because you are all snowed in up north and bored out of you minds. My email keeps filling up with all sorts of stuff. If I dont recognize the name and the email points me to an internet address then I delete.

There are still lots of people on the island and the weather has been beautiful this week. Many folks are extending their stay because they can’t get to their homes up north because of the snow. I guess it is better to be stuck in Key West than sitting in some snowed in airport in the north.

McFadden’s Beach House is another new bar in Key West. This one is on Green Street across from Sloppy Joes where Guy Harvey’s Island Grill used to be. This building (it was the Key West Citizen Newspaper Building in the past) has seen lots of business open and close under its roof. ‘In the tropics they come and they go’ Jimmy Buffett.

Bowling with coconuts was held at Blue Heaven with all profits going to a local charity.
