This Week on the Island 06/04/2022

‘This Week on the Island’ is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

The Weather

Hurricane season begins 1 June. This is Hurricane Agatha crossing Mexico.

It caused rain and restless seas here in Key West.

Monday was Memorial Day to remember those that are no longer with us. The older I get the harder this gets.

And like every Memorial Day weekend. There was the Minimal Regatta.

The Frangipani (Pomeria) are in bloom.

This week was also Pride Week (used to be Gay Pride Week). This Picture from June 15, 2003.

Shrimp Boat next to Schooner Wharf where the Western Union used to be.

The Key West bight from years ago. Pic is where Dante’s is now. The shrimp boats have moved to Stock Island.

We complain a lot about this country, but here are some Cubans that just arrived in America after crossing the Florida Straits. They would love the chance to trade places with you.

Friday’s weather was raining all day.

So, I made a Key Lime pie. Got everything ready but did not have enough Key Lime Juice so I added some lemon juice. Came out OK.

We leave you with ‘Easy like Sunday morning’.
