This Week on the Island 08/19/2012
This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

Weather: Winters are beautiful here and we get lots of tourist. It used to be that the summers belonged to those of us that lived here. Now we are getting more and more tourist this time of year. I guess it is cooler here than a lot of places up north. Low 80’s at night and high 80’s in the day.
The book this week was ‘Deep Six’ by Randy Wayne White.
Pictures from early morning till sunset.
-------------------------------------------------------------
You can’t start a day without a sunrise. This is a sunrise over the Key West Bight taken from around The Conch Republic Seafood Restaurant.
Fishing boats leaving in the morning. This picture taken from Mallory Square with Sunset Key in the background.
The cruise ship of the day is in at pier B. Picture taken from Truman Waterfront.
The USS Roosevelt, an Arleigh Burke-class Guided Missile Destroyer, is at the outer mole. Picture taken from Truman Waterfront.
These jet ski people were parked next to the USS Roosevelt and were run off by the Navy.
FT Zack was a Union outpost in the Civil War. The Fort used to be surrounded by the ocean but that ocean bottom was filled in when the ships cannel was dug. That fill created Ft Zack State Park.
FT Zack beach is one of the nicer beaches on the island. It is a Florida State Park and charges admission. That seems to keep the homeless out.
These tourists are ready for a sunset cruise.
Lots of tourist at Mallory Square for sunset celebration.
Another beautiful Key West sunset.
Time to hit Duval Street.
Key West, You have got to love it
