This Week on the Island 12/28/2008
'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Weather: Wonderful. Temp near 80 in the day and the 60’s at night. Bright sun, clear blue skies, white fluffy clouds. Christmas day was a great day to go to the beach and many people did.
The book this week was ‘Key Witch’ by Robert Tacoma (a Christmas present from Jo). It is about 3 sisters that sale their hotel on the west coast to a mega drug store chain and move to Key West and buys a hotel. While here they look for their forth sister that has been reported in the area, the same mega drug store chain tries to buy their Key West hotel.
This week has been very busy on the island. There are people every where, and lots of cruise ships in the harbor. The city had also suspended writing parking tickets for expired meters, so people were not moving their cars. This made it next to impossible to find a parking place, so we had lots of traffic with cars going around the streets looking for open parking places.
Key West is an international island. We especially have lot of folks from the Caribbean and eastern European countries that live here. We also seem to have lots of Asian visitors. The Asian’s are very polite and we could use more of them.
We have a fair in town down at the Truman annex and on the old ‘Sub Pens’ waterfront. The fair is quite large for Key West and there are many rides packed into the space available.
It seems that every week I run into another visitor to our island that reads ‘This Week on the Island’. I enjoy talking to you and finding out where you are from. Many people excuse themselves as they are introduced. I am just an old retired guy that is lucky enough to be living in Key West and am glad to meet each and every one of you. I enjoy your comments about Key West and my blog.
Wishing all of you a Happy New Year.
