This Week on the Island 02/25/2007

'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The picture this week is Jo's birthday present. Two totem poles shaped like parrots.

This week I read 'Mango Summers' by the Key West Authors' Coop. This was a book of short stories by local authors.

The Weather: Beautiful. In the mid 70's and lots of sun.

Monday (Presidents Day) was a road trip to Marathon (MM52.5) to take Wyleigh to the vet (she is fine). Then on to Islamorada (MM83) to pick up Jo's birthday present (see picture above). Next a short trip to Hog Heaven (MM86) for lunch. After that we headed further north to MM92.5 to view the new Wyland Wall. Turned around and headed back to Key West (MM0).

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday I spent in the house with the flu. By Friday I had had enough so I went and lay in the sun and read and listened to Jimi Hendrix. Yes, even living here you can get the flue. I think the tourist bring it in.

Saturday the dogs and I went to Schooner Wharf to listen to Michael McCloud for about and hour and then walked down to Duval Street. The island is packed with tourist. I guess everyone is tired of the cold up north.

The construction has started at the old Jaubors Camp Ground (behind Schooner Wharf). It has been approved for 32 condo's, each with 3 bedrooms and will sell for about $2 million each.
