This Week on the Island 02/05/2017
‘This Week on the Island’ is written by Doug Bennett and is an update
to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except
for those parts that are lies.
Weather:
Same as last week. Lots of sunshine,
blue skies and white clouds. Temperature in the high 70’s and low 80’s. People
everywhere. I guess they are tired of the cold.
The book
this week was ‘Tropical Swap’ by Laurence Shames. This is his 10th
book I’ve read.
Feb 2
was ground hog day but Punxsutawney Phil doesn’t live here so here
is a palm tree.
Feb 3 we started
‘Civil War Days’. Key West was a Union outpost in the war. As soon as the Commander
got the news about Fort Sumter in South Carolina he marched the troops to Fort
Zack. There were never any battles here, but we celebrate them anyway with
Rebels attacking Fort Zack and the Union defending the Fort.
Jo’s birthday
was on the 4th so we got a cake and went to Schooner Wharf Bar. Pieces
of the cake was given to the staff and the cooks.
We also
bought the house on Jo’s birthday 17 years ago.
Polar
Bears Club will meet at Salute on the Beach Sunday at the crack of noon. It is supposed
to be almost 80 degrees.
The Super
Bowl will be on Sunday. I hope you enjoy it.
Last but
not least, Margaritaville is closed for remodeling and The Westin is now The
Margaritaville Resort and Marina.
Key West
you have got to love it
